For UK business owners who are good at what they do, and tired of doing it all on their own
How UK business owners get more customers, more profit and their evenings back in two 20-minute jobs a week
And why the courses, the networking breakfasts and the free webinars you have already tried never quite did it, even though the advice in them was right.
From the desk of James Nicholson
Dorking, Surrey
Dear business owner,
There is a quote sitting in your sent items from three weeks ago that you never chased.
There is a price list you last changed in 2023.
And there is a customer who bought from you in March who would happily buy again, if anybody bothered to ask.
None of that is a knowledge problem. You know about all three. You could fix any one of them this afternoon and be measurably better off by Christmas.
You won't, though.
Not because you are lazy. You are probably the hardest-working person you know. You won't because at nine o'clock at night, after a full day of actually doing the work, "marketing" is the thing that gets done when everything else is finished.
Which is never.
This letter is about fixing that. Not with more information, because you have plenty. With something far more useful, that almost nobody running a small business in Britain has.
Why nothing you have bought so far has worked
Be honest. Somewhere there is a folder with a course in it you watched about a third of. A book on the pile with a corner turned down. A 6am networking breakfast, eleven months ago, that produced nothing you can name.
It is not your fault. The business training industry sells information, because information is cheap to make and easy to sell. Then it leaves you on your own with it, on a Sunday night, to work out where to start.
But information was never what was missing. You have more of it than any generation of business owner in history, and most of it is free and on your phone.
Three other things are missing. They are missing for almost every owner I have ever met:
Nobody checks
No manager, no appraisal, no colleague raising an eyebrow. If the marketing slides for a fortnight, absolutely nothing happens. Which is exactly why it slides.
Nobody understands
You can't tell your staff the truth about the month. Your mates see the van, or the shop, and assume you're flying. It is one of the loneliest jobs in Britain.
Nobody says well done
Employed people get promotions and leaving dos. Business owners get a VAT bill. You have probably never been given a single thing, in writing, for what you have built.
Fix those three and the information you already have starts working. Leave them broken and no course in the world will save you.
I learned this the expensive way

I left school with GCSEs and no plan. At eighteen I was the youngest restaurant manager Burger King had in the UK.
In 2004 I started selling iPod cases from my bedroom. Within three years it was turning over more than £2 million a year. Then I made one bad decision, the business went under, and I came out of it £50,000 in personal debt.
I couldn't afford a marketing agency (I'd already paid several and got nothing back), so I taught myself how to get a business found. In 2009 I started an agency of my own. It grew to ten staff and more than 150 clients, from FTSE 250 companies down to one-van trades.
And after watching 150 businesses up close, the pattern was impossible to miss:
The businesses that grow are not the ones with the best ideas. They are the ones that keep doing the small things after the enthusiasm wears off.
The review request. The quote chase. The price rise. The call to the customer who went quiet. Small, dull, twenty-minute jobs, done every week, for a year.
The owners who did them grew. The owners who knew about them, and meant to get round to them, stayed exactly where they were. Same intelligence. Same market. Different habits.
So I built something to make those small jobs actually happen.
Introducing The Business Owners Society
A membership for UK business owners that gives you the training, the tools to do the work, two small jobs a week, and a room full of owners who notice when you do them.
It runs on one simple idea I call the Two Jobs System:
- See where you are. A Google Maps scan of your whole trading area and a business scorecard show you, in about four seconds, where you are losing work.
- Get your two jobs. Every week the system picks the two highest-value jobs for your business, with the tool and the template attached. About 20 minutes each.
- Do them. The tools do the heavy lifting. Do your two and the week is secured. Your streak grows by one.
- Prove it. Pass the test at the end of each course and earn the certificate and badge. Re-scan your map and watch the red turn green.
Two jobs a week is 104 jobs a year. A hundred and four small, deliberate things done to grow your business that nobody in your town, in your trade, will have done. That is the whole secret. It has just never been made easy before.
In week one, for example, your two jobs might be:
- Ask your last five happy customers for a Google review (the tool writes the text and sends it)
- Chase every quote you sent in the last 30 days (the script is already written)
Forty minutes. And both of those make you money this month.
£1 for your first month, then £49 a month. No VAT. Cancel online in two clicks.
Or pay £490 for the year and get two months free.
Here is everything you get
One login. Here is what is inside, right now, on the day you join:
The 12 Moves
A year of growth in the right order, one move a month: know your numbers, get found, make it easy to buy, ask for reviews, follow up, put your prices up, package the offer, win the quote, reactivate, ask for referrals, get them back, buy back your time. Each move has short lessons, a tool, the real jobs and a test.
The Library: 37 more courses
For everything else: Google Business Profile, reviews, pricing, Google Ads, Facebook and Instagram ads, email, cold email, WhatsApp and text, video for the camera-shy, a website that converts, AI, cash flow, hiring a VA, your first employee, systems and the legal basics. 49 courses and more than 600 short lessons in all.
48 tools that do the work with you
Every course comes with a tool, so you finish with the job done, not a note to do it. The Map Scan, the Citation Builder (388 UK directories, including the directories that actually matter for a business like yours), Review Requests, Quote Check, Price Rise Planner, Package Builder, Reactivation, Cash Runway, Time Audit, SOP Builder and dozens more.
The Swipe File and campaign templates
28 ready-to-use swipes (emails, texts, ads, headlines, phone scripts, web pages) that fill themselves in with your business details. The quote chase, the review request, the price-rise letter. Copy, tweak, send.
AI that gives you your time back
Step-by-step set-up for your own AI receptionist and website chatbot, a month of social posts in an hour, getting recommended by ChatGPT, and an AI Business Brief that turns everything you have saved into instructions that make ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini write like your business.
Tests, certificates, badges and awards
Pass a course, earn its certificate and badge. Weekly streaks with medals at 5, 10, 26 and 52 weeks. Entrepreneur of the Month, Implementor of the Year, Most Improved. Finally, somebody says well done.
The Room
A private community of UK owners at every level, from first year to fifty staff. Not marketers. Not consultants. Owners. Ask the question you can't ask your staff, message other members privately, and see what is working for them this week.
Your weekly command centre
This week's two jobs, your goals, a task list, a focus timer, a vision board and a scoreboard of your revenue, margin, enquiries and conversion rate, all on one screen. Five minutes on a Sunday.
What would all that cost you separately?
I'm not going to invent a "total value" figure. Here is what the nearest equivalents cost, from each company's own published prices (checked August 2026):
| What you would buy instead | Per year |
|---|---|
| Rank tracking, citations and review monitoring (BrightLocal Track) | ~£384 |
| Google Maps geo-grid scanning (Local Falcon Starter) | ~£234 |
| 25 directory citations built for you (Local Citation UK) | £99 |
| A marketing training membership (DigitalMarketer Lab) | ~£890 |
| Group business coaching (ActionCOACH ProfitCLUB) | £1,200+ |
| Total | ~£2,807 |
| The Business Owners Society, paid yearly | £490 |
| The Business Owners Society, paid monthly | £588 |
And that's before the 49 courses, the swipe files, the AI tools and the community. Or compare it with the best-known UK business club, at £99 plus VAT every four weeks: thirteen payments a year, about £1,544.
So what does it cost?
Not £2,807. Not £1,544.
£49 a month. Twelve payments a year, not thirteen. No VAT on top.
And your first month is £1. One pound, to use everything, do your first jobs and see your own map, before you pay a penny more.
Why so little? Because there is no headquarters, no sales floor and no team of a hundred. It is a small operation running good software, and that software costs roughly the same whether there are fifty members or five thousand. The price isn't a promotion. It's what it actually costs to run.
Put it another way: one extra job a month pays for it. One quote chased that would have gone cold. One old customer who came back. One price rise that nobody noticed. Most members find that in their first fortnight.
£1 for your first month, then £49 a month. No VAT. Cancel online in two clicks.
Or pay £490 for the year and get two months free.
The guarantee, which is unusual
Most guarantees refund anyone who asks. That protects the people who did nothing, which isn't much of a promise.
Mine is different. Secure twelve of your first sixteen weeks (that's 24 jobs done), and if your business is no better off, email me within thirty days of week sixteen and I'll refund every penny you have paid.
No form. No interrogation. The system already knows whether you did the work, so there is nothing to argue about. And you can cancel any time before that, in two clicks, with no phone call and no notice period.
Founding members
The first 100 paying members get the Founding Member badge beside their name in the community, permanently. Once 100 accounts have joined, it's gone, and no one will ever be able to earn it again. I'm not going to put a fake countdown here. When they're gone, they're gone.
Who this is not for
- Anyone who wants it done for them. This is done-with-you. The tools do the heavy lifting, but you do the two jobs.
- Anyone who can't find forty minutes a week. Not forty a day. Forty a week. If that's genuinely impossible, the streak will just make you feel bad, and you'll cancel.
- Anyone looking for a networking group. No 6am breakfasts, no name badges, no sixty-second pitch rota.
- Anyone who already does all of this, every week. Genuinely, well done. You don't need us.
Questions owners ask
How much time does it really take?
About 40 minutes a week: two jobs of roughly 20 minutes. The courses are short and you only take the one that matches this month's move. Five minutes on a Sunday to tick off the week.
I've bought courses before and never finished them. Why is this different?
Because it isn't a course you watch. Every lesson ends in a job, every job comes with a tool that does most of it, and the week isn't secured until the job is done. Your streak, your badges and The Room all keep you moving after the enthusiasm wears off. That is the entire point.
Will it work for my kind of business?
It's built for UK businesses that win work locally or by reputation: trades, home services, salons and clinics, coaches and consultants, shops, hospitality and small firms. The tools ask about your business and fit themselves to it. If you sell only online and nationally, from a warehouse, this probably isn't for you.
Is it just marketing?
No. It's more customers, more profit and more time: pricing, packaging, cash flow, systems, hiring, AI and the legal basics, as well as Google, reviews and follow-up.
What happens after the first month?
You're charged £49 a month and carry on. If you'd rather not, cancel in two clicks from inside your account before then. Prefer to pay yearly? It's £490, which is two months free.
How do I cancel?
Online, from inside your account, in two clicks. No phone call, no retention pitch, no notice period.
What's the catch?
It only works if you do two things a week. There is no version where you join, don't touch it, and your numbers change. That's why the guarantee is built the way it is: I'd rather you cancelled than sat there dormant.
You have two choices from here
The first is to close this page and carry on as you are. Next month, the quote will still be unchased, the prices still the same, the customer still waiting to be asked. Nothing bad will happen. Nothing will change either.
The second is to spend £1, log in tonight, and do your first two jobs this week. If it isn't for you, cancel in two clicks and you've lost a pound. If it is, a year from now you'll have done 104 things to grow your business that nobody else in your town has done.
I know which one I would pick.
